Let me introduce you to our little genius...
Yes, he's sitting on a train...not sure where he's going.
Elijah has been working so hard on his fine & gross motor skills for the past few months that I figured he would just take some time to get to the other concepts like words & object recognition. Well, in the last 2 weeks, he's been wowing us with his knowledge!
And let me remind you that he doesn't turn 18 months (1 1/2 yrs.) until this coming weekend!
He now recognizes colors: blue, red, yellow, green...and sometimes purple or orange.
He recognizes shapes such as circles (his favorite), stars, triangles, and others in his "shapes box" where you push the plastic shapes through the holes into the box. We've spent quite a bit of time on this lately. He likes for me to help him, but I think he's studying what I do so he can declare his independence soon.
He also likes to look at his word/picture books so he can match pictures with the objects in the house. He points to things and puts them together and looks to me for confirmation. He especially likes the "Bright Baby" books that have miniatures of the book series on the backs of the books, so he sees the same photo on the front and back. He turns the books back & forth over & over as he sees the "big fish AND little fish".
What can I say...I'm a little proud! We're now working on counting to 3 and saying ABC and at least recognizing parts of the ABC song. As a teacher, I love having specific concepts that I can play with during the day. We sing songs, point to everything, and make silly noises most of the day. That is, when I'm not pulling him out of something he's not suppose to be in. We're having a blast and I'm looking forward to watching him grow in the next few weeks!
Here's Elijah at the piano just last night. He likes to sit at the piano bench by himself now so he can reach everything. Enjoy the vocals too...
